This was special because you gave it to me the very week that I moved into the first office that I can call my own (previously I was squatting in other people's offices). I love my new office and my seed vase. Thank you! Christy Collins
OK, it is now September. Back to school for some, for others, just back. Anyway, the seed vase project is on its next iteration. This month, the color is red. Professions (well, I like amateurs too!) are music and advertising. Zeroinfluencer told me ad men (mad men) are now called meddlers. Mentioned that to an old ad man this AM and he didn't get it. hmmm... Oh well. I like it. So, send me pics of your red seed vase with a short story, haiku or long story if you feel so inclined. I will take any color, actually.
Still getting my feet under this new iteration of the project. August is Sustainability month. The seed vase this month is orange. If you have an orange seed vase, please email me your picture and story. Actually, any color is cool. Send your pictures and words to mad.maryanne at gmail dot com
I love the message that Mary Anne is spreading, of art connecting us all, of creating communities when much of the world is focused on dividing people.
I took my Seed Vase out of its wrapper yesterday, to mark my first day after leaving my full time job. I wanted to start my day with a message of hope and inspiration, and decided to set my cheerful yellow vase on my bedroom windowsill next to a word carving I have from India.
In the short time I have known her, Mary Anne has given me great moral support in following my heart and living my dreams. It makes me happy to wake up to the sight of this vase and its message. --Amrita
This blog is dedicated to the Seed Vase Project, an ongoing project of davistudio, that is about this one vase that I make. It is called a seed vase because it represents the seed of an idea. The idea is that we are actually all connected. If everyone in the world owned a seed vase and took care of it, as part of a global art work, we would all be part of something that is really about how we are connected. The seed vase represents the material piece of that connection.
Please contribute to this blog through the comments and if you own a seed vase, send me pictures and I will post them here. Send me pictures of your seed vase anywhere in the world. Take it with you on vacation and photograph it in front of a famous monument. Or pick flowers from your garden and send me a beautiful shot of it full of today's ephemeral bounty. Help me make this project important. You are essential to it's success.
The Seed Vase Project is a global “scatter” piece which is a single unit in its entirety, but is spread throughout the world in individual’s homes who share participation through ownership. The Seed Vases are numbered, not as an edition, but as an act of numbering, creating a sequential relationship between the pieces. They are then given as gifts or kept. Everyone who participates in this project is connected.
Each vase is handmade, one at a time, out of porcelain by yours truly, in upstate New York, signed, dated and imprinted with the studio brand.
